At first glance, when Daniel Gozdziewski (pronounced GOZ-JET-SKI) came to bid on my project-- 1,400 square feet of new drywall (5/8" ceiling and 1/2" walls) for our newly-added master suite-- the job must have seemed straightforward. When I told him, however, that the final texture we wanted was "smooth wall," his eyes truly sparkled. For anyone who's ever dipped a blade in mud and attempted any sort of patch, repair or full-on new drywall joint, getting the final surface smooth and undetectable is a vanishing art. Today, almost without exception, drywallers slather, spray and trowel on a host of textures to hide imperfections. However, "Uncle Danny" (and his equally entertaining, articulate and meticulous sidekick Scott) hail from the greater New York area where smooth wall has long been the standard.
